De Paul House Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary This Year

As we reflect, we acknowledge and thank the many supporters, volunteers, staff and donors who have stood with us to bring comfort and practical support to those struggling with homelessness and poverty throughout the years.

Meeting The Housing Need

We are excited to announce our 'dream' is now a reality! After many years in the planning, we are building a brand-new housing complex, in Birkdale. There are nine homes, with one designed for those with disability. They offer affordable, stable homes to families and seniors, ranging in size from two- to four-bedrooms.

Brendan Fitzgerald, Chair stated, "This is the fulfilment of a dream that the De Paul House governance board have been working towards for many years. Ceta have proved to be excellent development partners, and they are running on time and within budget."

Keep an eye out for the invitation this June/July to the official blessing and opening of this amazing complex.

Increasing Calls For Help

In January 2026, we received 123 calls from families, teenagers and seniors seeking help to address housing issues. This is an 108% increase compared to January 2025! This trend is continuing, meaning we face a huge demand on our support services.

From Trauma To New Beginnings

Mary Louise* and her children were taken to Women's Refuge by police, after her husband had completely destroyed the family home. She left with just a few bags of clothes.

The family came to De Paul House still traumatised by the past family violence. In tears, she told her social worker she was so grateful for the safe, comfortable house. This gave her time to catch her breath and space to settle her children. It was her stepping stone to eventually moving into long-term secure social housing. *Not her real name.

"Our Social Worker, I'll never forget her and how she helped us. She's so helpful in everything we needed when we just got there. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for everything."
